SPIRIT of PLACE

Into the bold adventure we went. Head first.

Warner's wanted to keep an eye and a tight rein on us so the first recording session was done in Sydney at the newly opened Rhinoceros Studios.

We laid all the tracks down over about a week, with Trevor Lucas as Producer and Tony Buettel as our Engineer. Trevor had returned from England where he'd been a member of legendary English folk rock group, Fairport Convention. He'd also been married to the mercurial songstress, Sandy Denny. Sandy had died and Trevor returned to Australia to raise their daughter. Tony had been the drummer for the band, Band of Light in the early 1970's.

Goanna was a rockin' band but Rose and Marce and I had come from a folk rock background: James Taylor, Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Carole King, etc. A lot of the songs were driven by acoustic guitar or piano. Trevor was the perfect producer for us for Spirit of Place. He had experience fro Fairport Convention in how to marry acoustic instruments and an electric band.
